Day 3

Today started like yesterday, in the gym at the MGM at 6am. I am still not sleeping well, but I never do for the first few days of a Vegas trip.

After 45 mins in the gym, I walked down to the pool complex to arrive just as it opened, to get some nice uncrowded photos in the early morning sun. (quick weather update, yesterday and today the temperature is 105F, rising to 111 F on Thursday).

Next on to Ellis Island for an old-school Vegas coffee shop breakfast, which I do at least once on every Vegas trip. I had corned-beef hash, with poached eggs, potatoes and sourdough toast.

After breakfast, I headed to the Outlet Mall south of Mandalay Bay, for my annual clothes shopping trip! I shopped until I couldn't carry any more bags, and returned to the MGM several hundred dollars poorer, to watch more poor quality Euro-football.

Lunch was at Jack-in-the-Box, which I think is the most underrated US burger chain, but Americans look down their noses at. Anyway, it was delicious.

After a mid-afternoon nap, I hit the MGM sports book to watch the Reds series opener against the Indians. I watched the first hour, but Matt Latos was pitching like a drain, so I jumped in a poker game, still with one eye on the baseball.

Now that weekend crowds have left the games today were all pretty solid, but I booked a decent win to put me ahead on the week, whilst the Reds ended up losing narrowly 10-9.

By 7.30pm I was getting hungry, so I walked across the bridge to the newly renovated Tropicana. Nothing really caught my eye as far as restaurants were concerned, so I carried on to Hooters, and ate in the Mad Onion. I had the chicken pot pie with a ranch salad and it was delicious, washed down with an excellent wheat beer.

After another short nap (I tend to sleep in 2-3 hour segments, 2 or 3 times a day in Vegas) I sat in the 1/2 NL game again at the MGM. This game was very aggressive, but I picked my spots and booked my second decent win of the day.

In a few hours time I need to check out of the MGM to move down the Strip to the Venetian, where I will be staying for the next 3 nights.

Here are few photos of the MGM lobby and casino.
